Confirmation II Candidate Requirements 2010-11

Dear Confirmation Candidate Parents & Families,

Welcome to the second year of Confirmation Preparation.  Thank you for taking so seriously the role of preparing your child for their future in the Church.  We are pleased and priviledged that you will share your precious one, a unique child of God, with us.  Together with you, we will continue to train these young people in the ways of our beautiful Catholic, Christian faith.  Confirmation will complete the sacraments of Initiation that began with Baptism, grew in the reception of the Holy Eucharist and finally becomes complete as one Candidate for the Sacrament is sealed by and for the Holy Spirit at Confirmation.

This year you are called upon to help feed the flame of the Holy Spirit in your child's life. This is possible by allowing your child to learn from your example. You are called to teach others as you live a life of service to the community of God with a joy-filled attitude. In this age of relative truth and political tolerance, the importance of instilling the truths of our faith in the children you love becomes ever more evident. These truths give them guidance and hope as they learn to discern the world around them and mature into faithful Disciples of Christ.

Each baptized person is called to choose the Church that Jesus founded to make Himself present in our world. The Catholic Church is so unique in its unification with Jesus that we refer to this reality as the MYSTICAL BODY OF CHRIST. We are not just a number in this Church; we are the very living gifts and talents that we are called to give back to the Lord. The truth is not neutral, so those who hear the truth will either embrace it, run from it, or even fight against it. We are also witnesses to our faith by what we say and do.

Our hope is to awaken in our students a generous and wholehearted love for the Church, a love brought about through a clear understanding of her divine nature. The Sacrament of Confirmation will be an effective sign of God’s life in us if we open up completely: heart, mind and soul.

Please be assured that we are always available to answer your questions and we look forward to getting to know you and your children.

In the Love of Christ,

Rev. Joseph Smith, Pastor
